“Pain is the physical adjunct of a protective reflex” - Charles Sherrington, Neurophysiologist. 1857 - 1952

Intimately personal, invisible, and difficult to define. Pain plays a vital role in our daily lives and our relationship with the world around us. Pain can shape our emotions, actions, and even impact our social behavior.

The WALDONgroup has spent a decade studying pain experienced by healthcare providers; when does pain occur? How long does pain last? How severe is the pain experienced? And does pain experienced in the workplace impact life outside of work?

The WALDONgroup pain study includes more than one hundred thousand direct care provider respondents working in more than two hundred inpatient facilities. Our rich pain data is shared for the first time on this page.
